CELPIP
Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program
What is the CELPIP test?
The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is an English-language proficiency test that’s recognized by many governments, professional organizations, and employers as proof of proficiency in English.
The test reliably measures a candidate’s English abilities in a variety of common situations, such as communicating in the workplace, interacting with friends, understanding newscasts, and interpreting and responding to written material.
Choose your test
There are two versions of the CELPIP test.
CELPIP-General
This test evaluates functional listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. It is accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as proof of proficiency in the English language for permanent residency in Canada.
Other organizations that accept the CELPIP-General Test include the Real Estate Council of British Columbia (RECBC) and Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC).
CELPIP-General LS
This test evaluates functional listening and speaking proficiency. It is accepted by IRCC as proof of proficiency in the English language for Canadian citizenship, and is also recognized for professional designations.
Prepare for the test
CELPIP offers a wide array of resources to help prepare you for the test.
Terms and conditions
As part of your online registration, you must provide a high-quality scan of a valid photo ID and consent to a photo capture. Your signature and photo will appear on the certificate of your test results.
On your in-person test date, you must sign in upon arrival and provide the same photo ID you used during online registration. Photocopies, scans, or alternative IDs will not be accepted. For example, if you registered with your passport but arrive with your permanent residency card instead, your ID will be rejected, you will be denied entry, and you will not qualify for a test date transfer or refund. So please make sure you bring the correct photo ID.
“True copies” of photo ID are not accepted.
Any impersonation attempt will be treated as fraud and may result in the registered candidate being barred from taking any future CELPIP tests.
