The Department of Finance at the John Molson School of Business is committed to excellence in both research and teaching and has earned a solid reputation as a productive and research oriented academic unit.

The Department’s research activities include theoretical, empirical, and applied contributions - all aimed at furthering knowledge in the field. Its teaching activities cover a wide range of topics including corporate finance, investment, international finance, personal finance, optimization techniques, portfolio management, options and futures and fluctuations in security prices, exchange rates, and interest rates.

Erkan Yönder

Chair of Finance

Dr. Erkan Yönder is working as an associate professor of Real Estate and Finance at the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University in Canada. Dr. Yönder has received his PhD degree in Finance and Real Estate from Maastricht University. He also holds a second PhD degree in Economics from Middle East Technical University.

Dr. Yönder works on real estate finance, more specifically Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), commercial real estate, commercial mortgages, green buildings, and climate finance. His research projects in these fields have been published in leading academic journals including Review of Finance, Real Estate Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Economic Geography, and Journal of International Money and Finance.

Dr. Yönder’s research has been recognized and funded by leading academic and private institutions. His research has been awarded for grants and awards from institutions such as Real Estate Research Institute (RERI), European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA), and Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). He presented his academic works at leading universities such as MIT, Yale University, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and Cornell University.
