Benoit-Antoine Bacon, provost and vice-president of Academic Affairs, has announced that Stéphane Brutus will serve as interim dean of Concordia’s John Molson School of Business (JMSB) while the search for a new dean is conducted.

“Stéphane Brutus brings with him an exceptional record of administrative and academic achievements,” says Bacon.

“I have full confidence that he will provide stable and dynamic leadership during this important transition period at JMSB.”

Brutus, a professor in the Department of Management, recently completed his term as associate dean of JMSB’s graduate professional programs.

In that role, he oversaw the implementation of new curriculum in the John Molson Executive MBA, the Graduate Diploma in Chartered Professional Accountancy (CPA), and the Graduate Diploma and Certificate in Business Administration programs.

He previously served as director of the Bell Research Centre for Business Process Innovation and as chair of the Department of Management. Brutus also played a key part in JMSB’s strategic planning process.

A distinguished scholar, Brutus holds a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council  (SSHRC) research grant and the RBC Professorship in Performance and Employee Motivation.

He obtained his PhD in industrial-organizational psychology from Bowling Green State University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) in Greensboro, North Carolina.

His human resource management research is focused on feedback, managerial development and performance evaluation.

“I look forward to serving as interim dean,” says Brutus, who assumes his new role on December 1, 2015. “My focus will be on maintaining the momentum of major projects that are already underway, such as the implementation of the school’s strategic plan.”

He replaces Steve Harvey, who is stepping down in December to pursue an international opportunity as dean of the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon.

“In the three years that he’s been with us, Steve has made important contributions to the Faculty, strengthening its reputation and visibility as one of the largest and best business schools in North America,” says Bacon.

“I wish him the best in his endeavours and look forward to working with Stéphane in ensuring that there is a smooth transition in leadership.”
