Alumnus and JMSB Dean’s Advisory Board member, Tony Loffreda was among this year’s recipients of the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award.

Loffreda was given the award by Governor General of Canada David Johnson on April 7, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall. 46 volunteers from various sectors were honoured as part of a program to highlight National Volunteer Week.

Created in 1995, the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award recognizes individuals who volunteer their time to help others and to build a smarter and more caring nation.

The award also highlights the fine example set by these volunteers, whose compassion and engagement are so much a part of our Canadian character. It allows us to thank them for their contributions and for the positive impact they have had on the lives of others.

The award recognizes living Canadians and permanent residents who have made a significant, sustained, unpaid contribution to their community, in Canada or abroad.

“Tony’s engagement in the community continues to be a shining example to other members of the JMSB family,” says Dean Steve Harvey. “We are particularly happy to see Canadians celebrate a side of him that we have always known and cherished at JMSB.”
