Croteau will become the first female dean of JMSB, a world-class business school committed to academic excellence in teaching and research.

A professor in the Department of Supply Chain and Business Technology Management, she is a highly respected academic leader with 25 years of teaching and research experience, including 10 years as an administrator.

Croteau is a certified chartered director and serves on the board of directors for leading organizations, including the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) and Hydro-Québec.

“Anne-Marie is an outstanding choice for dean of JMSB,” says Graham Carr, provost and vice-president of Academic Affairs. “She is a highly valued member of the Concordia community. In addition to being an excellent researcher, a superb teacher and mentor, she has an exceptional track record of service to the university and will bring energetic leadership and commitment to JMSB.”

“Her global vision, engagement with students, facility for getting things done, and openness to research and program collaboration across faculties is an excellent fit with our strategic directions. Thoughtful and authentic, she has earned the trust and respect of colleagues within JMSB and across the university," says Carr.

"Deeply familiar with the context of business and business education in Québec, Anne-Marie is also highly respected within the business community, not least because of her service on the boards of two of Quebec’s most important public institutions. She has the knowledge, experience and drive to advance JMSB’s reputation as one of the best business schools in Canada," he adds.

“Members of our search committee were impressed by Anne-Marie’s vision for the future of JMSB.  They are confident in her ability to ensure that the faculty continues to equip students with the skills and mindset to succeed in an increasingly complex, global landscape of disruptive change while maintaining the commitment to social responsibility which is part of JMSB’s character.”

In 1998, Croteau was the first woman to obtain a PhD in Business Administration with a specialization in Management Information Systems (MIS) from Université Laval. She also holds both a Bachelor and Master of Science in Management Information Systems from HEC Montréal, as well as a BSc in Actuarial Mathematics from Concordia University.

Most recently, she was associate dean of Professional Graduate Programs and External Relations at JMSB.

“As the new dean of JMSB, I am grateful for the opportunity to continue building on the faculty’s international reputation for providing transformative educational experiences to business students from every corner of the world,” says Croteau.

“Over the past two decades, I have celebrated countless successes of JMSB’s extraordinary faculty, staff, students and alumni. And, I look forward to countless more celebrations as the school works collaboratively with external partners and internally across disciplines to forge new opportunities, maintain the momentum of current initiatives and promote the outstanding work and research emerging from the faculty.”

“I’m excited by the opportunity to continue working closely with outstanding colleagues as we build on the accomplishments of our next-generation business school and align our teaching and learning opportunities to reflect larger societal trends and challenges facing society,” she adds.

“Guided by JMSB’s strategic imperatives and the university’s strategic directions, the school will continue to inspire and motivate students to positively transform business and society.”

Croteau’s appointment as dean will bring the appointment of interim dean Stéphane Brutus to a close. He assumed the role on December 1, 2015, while the search for a new dean was conducted.

Carr says, “I would like to thank Stéphane Brutus for his excellent work and steady leadership during the lengthy period he served as interim dean. The interim role is not an easy one and it is to Stéphane’s great credit that JMSB continued to move forward under his leadership. Of his many contributions, surely the most important is the five-year accreditation that JMSB received from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. The five-year accreditation is a first for JMSB and a great legacy for Stéphane and his team.”
