The couple is one of 12 duos racing around the world for the largest prize in Canadian television history: $250,000, two Chevrolet Colorado trucks, free gasoline for life and free flights for a year.
So far, the show has taken them to Quebec and Toronto as well as Chile and Argentina. Their multilingual talents have played a part in getting them to the third episode, but it was their mental fortitude that has helped the most during the race.
“I compared it to the last day of school, where you have 20 exams and the professors tell you, ‘Okay, you have to write them all at the same time,’” she says. “That’s the amount of stress you have.”
Filmed in May, the pair is back in Montreal now and excited to share the experience with friends and family — something they couldn’t do when making up excuses for their five-week absences during filming.
“It was very difficult not to tell anyone. We weren’t allowed to say anything until we were announced on Canada AM on June 16,” says Mercuri. “We had to have a cover story.”
