Enabling technologies for 5G/6G: Multifunctional millimeter-wave/thz photonic antennas
Reference number: 9026
Supervisors: John Xiupu Zhang and Ahmed Kishk
Program description
5G access network consists of backhaul and fronthaul system that are used to connect with antennas at base stations. Low power consumption and cost-effective base stations in 5G networks are essential. To this end, electronic and photonic integrated antennas must be used combined with simple fronthaul transmission technologies. This research is going to investigate design of new broadband and high-power photodiode, millimeter-wave and THz antenna and photodiode integrated with antenna, i.e. photonic antenna. The candidate must have a good knowledge of semiconductor physics, semiconductor devices, electromagnetics and antennas. Previous experiences in the above are essential requirements.
Academic qualifications required
PhD in physics and electromagnetics related fields with experience in semiconductor device and antenna design.
