PhD scholarship
for 2023-2024
Overview
The Desjardins Centre for Innovation and Financing welcomes applications for fellowships. The Scholarship is intended to attract and retain deserving PhD students with strong interest in new financial technologies, such as FinTech, blockchain, and crypto assets, as disruptors and innovation channels in the financial sector as well as traditional and innovative new forms of business or project financing.
Who Can Apply
Full-time PhD students who are currently registered in the PhD in Business Administration program at JMSB and are expected to be at least one year in the PhD program.
Value
The scholarship is valued at $5,000.
Duration
The Scholarship has a duration of one year and is renewable once as long as the student maintains the required progress, academic standing, and is scheduled to graduate within their program’s normal completion time. Students will have to undergo the normal application process, if they wish to renew the scholarship.
Application Instructions
Please submit the application package by November 1, 2023 by noon in one file to jmsb.gradawards@concordia.ca with the following Subject: “Desjardins Centre PhD Scholarship application 2023-2024”. Applications must include all required documents in a single PDF document, named as follows: “[YOUR NAME] - Desjardins Centre PhD Scholarship Application 2023-2024”. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Required documents
1. A detailed research proposal (max. 1,500 words) including (a) abstract about the research idea (max. 300 words), (b) an explanation of your interest in new financial technologies and / or business financing, (c) detailed research idea, including a description of the data needed, methods to be applied and the contribution to the current literature, (d) a summary of the main research objectives for the PhD thesis or research project, and (e) a timeline of milestones;
2. In case you have previously received a Scholarship from the Desjardins Centre for Innovation and Financing, your research proposal must (a) show the progress of the project and how the project progressed according to the initially proposed timeline of milestones and (b) how you would further benefit if you were to receive further funding;
3. An up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV), including a list of all publications, achievements and relevant professional and research experience;
4. A letter of recommendation from your supervisor, which includes a statement that you are scheduled to graduate within the program’s normal completion time. If you have already received funding from the Desjardins Centre for Innovation and Financing, your supervisor must confirm that you have made the required progress and that you are scheduled to graduate within the program’s normal completion time; and
5. Unofficial transcripts of all university studies (bachelor, master).
Adjudication: Adjudication is done by the Scientific Committee of the Desjardins Centre for Innovation and Financing.
