Tanea Hynes: Iron Aura - Vernissage

Iron Aura is an MFA thesis exhibition presented by MFA candidate Tanea Hynes at Concordia University. This photo-based exhibition examines the aura of open-pit iron mining, which encompasses a complex social culture and profound relationships between workers and the land. Iron Aura confronts industrial and environmental realities in Canada’s sparsely populated eastern sub-arctic region, while suggesting a gentle path forward: beyond remediation and towards a speculative and regenerative post-industrial future.

Please join us on Thursday at the MFA Gallery at Concordia's VA Gallery on Thursday, May 16, from 6 p.m. to 8p.m. for a casual closing reception. Drinks and snacks will be provided. The show will be open to the public from May 13 to 18. Entry is free and all are welcome.

About the artist:

Tanea Hynes is an interdisciplinary artist based in Montreal, Quebec (b. Labrador City 1996) Hynes has shown work across North America, and self-published an artist edition entitled WORKHORSE in 2021. Her work is held in both public and private collections, in Canada and abroad. Most recently, her work was acquired by The Canada Council Art Bank.

Hynes is the 2021 winner of the Roloff Beny Foundation Fellowship in photography from Concordia University, was long-listed for the 2022 and 2023 Scotiabank New Generation Photography award, and most recently exhibited at the Fogo Island Art Gallery alongside photographer Ethan Murphy. Hynes is a visual art editor for Riddle Fence Journal of Art and Culture. She is represented in Europe by KIN Brussels.
