Concordia’s Alice Ming Wai Jim is named a member of the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec

Alice Ming Wai Jim, professor of art history and Concordia University Research Chair in Critical Curatorial Studies and Decolonizing Art Institutions (Tier 1), has been selected as one of 16 distinguished individuals to be honoured by the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec.
Jim is also founder and co-editor of the Journal of Asian Diasporic Visual Cultures and the Americas.
"I am deeply honoured by this recognition by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec for my work to deepen the understanding of the contributions by artists of colour. I am extremely grateful to everyone - the community, family, and friends - who have been part of my ongoing journey," notes Jim.
Other recipients this year include filmmaker André Forcier, Quebec repertory cinema pioneer Roland Smith, Inuit singer-songwriter and journalist William Tagoona, and the members of the popular Quebec rock band Les Cowboys Fringants, Marie-Annick Lépine, Jérôme Dupras, Jean-François Pauzé and Karl Tremblay.

“I extend my congratulations to her, along with my sincere appreciation for the essential work she continues to undertake."
The order’s jury cited Jim’s commitment to recognize and increase ethnic and cultural representation in the visual arts across Quebec and Canada and enriching cultural dialogue in the province and country.
Established in 2015 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec celebrates those who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement and excellence of arts and letters in Quebec and beyond. Now in its 10th year, the order has recognized 167 individuals for their significant contributions.
This year’s induction ceremony will take place at the Espace orange in the Wilder Building in Montreal on June 10.
