Position description
The Centre for Continuing Education at Concordia University provides part-time employment to a range of subject-matter experts to teach in short-target courses and programs. Teaching tasks include the preparation of course and course plan, delivery of course, evaluating student performance and grading student work and grade submission. Instructors attend departmental meetings and attend professional development training activities related to the program.
Course description and learning outcomes
In this course, students will be learning to distinguish the subtleties of AI systems, from the narrow AI applications embedded in a phone to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
Additionally, students will be able to characterize the types of existing models behind the applications, and analyze the human, data, and technological resources necessary to develop such systems. Last, but certainly not least, this course teaches students the limitations and ethical issues, including biases, that can exist in AI applications and how to detect them. Throughout the studies, students will have an opportunity to see AI in action through use cases that showcase the adoption of AI in several industries. The challenge for the students will be to explore how they can use AI to help solve problems in their everyday life and in their organization through case studies and other projects. This will help them better understand AI and evaluate the impacts of AI on their daily lives. In this course, students won’t just learn the basics of AI but actively participate in learning all the different facets that make up AI.
By the end of this course, the students will be able to:
- Examine AI use cases in different contexts
- Identify AI readiness
- Examine the possibilities and limitations of AI
- Determine the requirements and criteria for a successful AI project
- Describe the pitfalls of AI
Qualifications and assets
- Education: BS/MS Major in Computer Science or equivalent with a preference given to specialization in AI
- Industry experience: 5+ years relevant work experience in implementing AI systems for industry; managing engineering team (technical background) to deliver solutions
- Teaching experience: 2+ years of experience delivering training material, workshops, lectures, or classroom teaching
- Experience: Hands-on knowledge of applied projects, machine learning, deep learning, and systems engineering; collaboration within the Montreal AI ecosystem; Azure, GCP, or other platform to collect/clean data and train models
- French proficiency required: Conversation level minimum 4-5; Writing level 5. Candidates will be tested.
