Undergraduate Funding Opportunities

Undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing academic studies in Israel should contact the Azrieli Institute of Israel Studies for general information and issues related to financial assistance.

There are also two other opportunities:

1. The Sarah Morris Scholarship Award was established in memory of Sarah Morris who died in 2017 at the age of 98. Sarah earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973 while working full time as a bookkeeper. She had received a scholarship to Sir George Williams but couldn't afford the additional cost and went to work instead yet she never lost the desire to get a university education. After receiving her BA she decided to continue taking courses at Concordia and continued doing so into her late eighties. She loved the university environment, loved learning, and loved being among young people. Sarah strived for excellence in everything she did. Her thirst for knowledge and her love of learning were inspirational. She also had a deep love for Israel and Judaic studies. The Sarah Morris Scholarship was established in loving memory of a special woman who left her mark on the world and everyone whose life she touched.

This in-course scholarship is for students studying at the Azrieli Institute. It is open to full-time and part-time students and to either Canadian citizens and permanent residents only.

2. The Sarna-Weigensberg Award is an in-course scholarship for full-time students; either Canadian citizens, permanent residents or international students, in the Azrieli Institute of Israel Studies. Recipient must participate in the Azrieli Institute of Israel Studies Summer School in Jerusalem or be enrolled in the Israel Studies Minor.

The donors of the Sarna-Weigensberg Award are Csaba Nikolenyi, professor at Concordia University and his wife, Andrea Gondos, PhD, alumna of Concordia University. They are creating this award in honour of Lazar Sarna and Jewel Sarna-Weigensberg to recognise their dedication to Jewish and Isreal education and in memory of their parents Libby and Israel Sarna and Jean and Harvey Leslie Weigensberg.

Contact the Institute to apply or for addtional information.
