Pushing Ethnonationalist Policies: Do Small Nations Have Any Other Choice? Comparative Perspectives From Quebec and Israel
At the end of August, the Department of Political Science and the Azrieli Institute hosted a three-day academic workshop dedicated to exploring what choices small nations, per Milan Kundera, have when it comes to protecting their national identity. The program brought together ten scholars from Israel and Quebec and featured a keynote address by Professor Pierre Anctil (University of Ottawa) on “AntecedenTs, Variations and Similitudes: Comparing Quebecois and Israeli Nationalisms” and a policy discussion about the state of the relations between Israel and Quebec by Paul Hirschson, the Consul-General of the State of Israel in Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
We are grateful to the Department of Political Science, its chair Dr. Daniel Salée, and the Assistant to the Chair, Joanne Downs, for their collaboration.
