Art Volt is excited to welcome Audible Studios! Students and recent alumni of Concordia’s Faculty of Fine Arts are invited to participate in a series of discussions and workshops with Audible Studios directors and contributors. Participants will have the rare opportunity to learn more about the inner workings of audio content production from industry leaders themselves.

Meet Audible Studios: Introduction + Q&A

Are you curious about Audible: Who they are? What they do? Join us for an introduction talk and a Q&A session with Kat Jackson, Senior Director of Audible Studios and Timothy Warner, a Director for Audible Studios. Learn more about the process behind the creation of audio content and discover the various career options available within the industry: from pitching content, to producing and recording, or even becoming a voice actor/narrator.

We will also be joined by seasoned Audible contributors, Jesse Einstein and Stephanie Einstein. Learn more about their experience and their journey working as writers, producers, directors and/or voice actors.

Narration and Voice Acting

The Audible Studios team works with our pool of actors to bring audio storytelling to life every day, from audiobooks to multicast dramas. This workshop will help lead participants through identifying and developing the skills necessary to work in the field. Participants will be invited to engage and ask questions.

This workshop will address:

  • The art of narration and how it relates to other forms of acting
  • Getting started, producing demos, agents and unions
  • The importance of preparation
  • The studio experience, the role of home studios
  • Audiobooks vs multicast
  • Performance tips

Production Workshop

  • In English with Timothy Warner, Jesse Einstein and Stephanie Einstein
  • Friday, March 22nd - 10am to 11:30am
  • IN-PERSON - FB building, 6th floor, room 620

This workshop highlights how Audible Studios works on developing and producing multicast drama, non-fiction titles, and other forms of audio storytelling beyond traditional audiobooks. This session is led by Audible Studios producers, and focuses on the how and why of producing best-in-class audio projects. Participants will be invited to engage and ask questions.

This workshop will address:

  • Defining the various forms of audio storytelling
  • Writing for audio
  • Breaking down scripts, pre-production and budgets
  • Casting and working with actors
  • Recording and editing
  • Sound design, music, Atmos
  • Post-production
  • Art, science and imagination in audio storytelling

Kat Jackson

Kat Jackson is the Senior Director of Audible Studios, overseeing all production in the US as well as Canada, Latin America and Brazil. She also leads the international studios expansion team, spearheading studio development in all new territories. Kat is the head of Audible’s University Outreach program and the yearly Global Studios Summit, as well as the team’s forays into innovative storytelling via new technology.

For two decades, Kat has been working with narrators to produce and direct outstanding performances that delight the ears of listeners. Her specialties include extensive experience in casting and direction, as well as technical oversight and audio innovation.

Kat is also an educator. She has taught workshops at Juilliard, Columbia, NYU, Syracuse and Toronto Metropolitan University (CA). In addition to her production oversight, Kat has played a lead role Audible’s presence at San Diego ComiCon and hosted the Narrator Hall of Fame and the inaugural Audible Live event.

Prior to working at Audible, Kat ran the award-winning CDM Studios in Hell’s Kitchen, where she worked on audiobook, commercial, educational and industrial projects. She also produced audio tours for museums around the world, including the reinstallation of the MoMA permanent collection in 7 languages.

Timothy Warner

Timothy Warner is a Director for Audible Studios. Tim oversees production networks for audiobooks (and non-book audio content) for Latin America, Brazil, Canada, and India. This includes management of a global production team, including local production specialists, simultaneously producing hundreds of audiobooks as well as Originals and other special projects.

Tim also interfaces with production teams in the EU, UK and APAC, and works with the International Expansion Team to build production networks in emerging areas as they arise.

Tim had been in this position for over 6 years, but has worked for Audible for a total of 12 years in various ways, as an audio engineer and director for celebrity projects, and operated an external studio in NYC producing projects for Audible.

Tim has traveled to 80 countries and consumes 15 hours of spoken content a week, usually simultaneously. For fun, he produces a history/travel audio show in his home studio, surrounded by synthesizers and artifacts from his travels.

Jesse Einstein

Jesse Einstein is an Emmy-nominated producer, director, writer, and actor. He has partnered with Concordia Studio, Boardwalk Pictures, Jubilee Media, Audible, Radical Productions, Sky TV, ABC, Comedy Central, Hulu, and FX, among others. His independent films have played internationally at 100+ film festivals.

Jesse has voiced over 50 audiobooks, podcasts and multicasts on Audible. He has also directed Audible narrations with diverse celebrities and authors, and developed numerous pilots and Audible Originals.

Recently, he directed, produced, + co-wrote a 9-episode podcast for Audible Originals — Operation Firewall, which sold to MRC/Happy Friday for development into a narrative TV show.

On screen, Jesse has been seen on Pam & Tommy, Mixed-ish, The League, Kroll Show, and Lopez, and in movies directed by Ari Aster and Maggie Kiley.

He now lives in Vancouver, British Columbia with his wife and 2 cats and is passionate about using storytelling to make the world a better place.

Stephanie Einstein

Vancouver-based Actress Stephanie Einstein has voiced over 175 narrative podcasts, audiobooks, and multicasts on Audible, working with Christina Applegate, Audra McDonald, Santino Fontana, Jamie Bell, and Dakota Fanning, among others. She is a winner of multiple Earphone Awards, and voiced international promos for celebrities such as Andrea Bocelli.

She works as an actor in Film, TV, Commercials, and as a director for Audiobooks. Recent TV credits include roles on ABC's black•ish and Lifetime's My Crazy Ex. Her acclaimed audiobook work includes Love at First Psych by Cara Bastone, The Last to Let Go by Amber Smith, How Lulu Lost Her Mind by Rachel Gibson, No Hiding in Boise by Kim Hooper, and the Dawn titles in The Baby-Sitter’s Club by Ann M. Martin.

She earned her BFA in Acting from Wright State University, where she was a multi-year recipient of the Tom Hanks Scholarship.
