Increased self-compassion has been associated with resilience and adaptive outcomes in academic settings. In this interactive workshop, you will explore self-compassion as an inner resource for navigating end of term stressors with kindness and fierceness by drawing from the ying and yang of self-compassion.

In the first part of the workshop, we will practice tools to comfort and soothe ourselves when experiencing difficult emotions. In the second part of the workshop, we will apply strategies to facilitate self-motivation, self-protection, and providing ourselves with what we need.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify challenges that students may experience during the end of term and their impact.
  • Define self-compassion and explore practical implications of the ying and yang of self-compassion.
  • Practice soothing and comforting negative emotions while implementing helpful self-talk rather than negative self-criticism.
  • Apply strategies to empower and motivate ourselves during demanding times.
