Fiona King is a graduate student in the Media Studies MA program at Concordia University, holding an Honours BA in Sociology, with minors in Film Studies and Religious Studies. Her research explores popular culture and music scenes, combining her interests in popular music, cultural theory, and research methodologies.
Fiona’s MA thesis is focused on the spaces and spatial practices that inform the Mile-End music scene in Montreal, Quebec, investigating the unregulated DIY (Do-It-Yourself) music venues that have allowed for unique, boundaryless cultural production in the area. By examining the relationship between music and society and highlighting the sociocultural significance of these spaces, she aims to study the diverse and dynamic nature of alternative music culture in Montreal.
