Maya Lach-Aidelbaum holds a BA in Journalism with a minor in Women’s Studies from Concordia University. During her studies, Maya completed a year-long student exchange at Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich, Germany, where she studied communication sciences. She also produced and hosted Femme AM, a feminist radio show on CJLO 1690AM, created a poetry podcast, wrote for Verge Travel Magazine, and reported in German for Munich’s M94.5 radio station.
After graduating, Maya worked as a journalist with CBC News for three years in Montreal, Toronto, and Whitehorse, covering critical topics such as climate change, housing affordability, and social inequality. At CBC Radio’s Quirks and Quarks, Canada’s leading science radio show, she highlighted key research discoveries and made complex scientific concepts accessible to a broader audience. In 2022, Maya joined Concordia University as a Writer and Coordinator for Research and Graduate Communications, where she crafts stories showcasing Concordia’s research.
Now pursuing her master’s degree, Maya is focused on equitable representation in the environmental justice movement. Her research interests include examining how media portrayals shape public perception of environmental justice and contribute to systemic inequities. Through analyzing media content and interviewing underrepresented community members, she aims to uncover and promote strategies for more inclusive environmental narratives.
