Aatefeh Pedidar

Supervisor: David Secko

Aatefeh Padidar is a master’s student and journalist based in Montreal. Her research examines Canadian media’s coverage of Iran’s anti-hijab movement, focusing on how Canadian narratives interpret and convey global issues.

Recently, she presented her work at the Canadian Communication Association (CCA) on Community-Centered Journalism, with a focus on the state of local news and information in three Montreal boroughs. Her research interests encompass both international issues and local journalism, believing that one cannot exist meaningfully without the other.

Aatefeh also holds a Graduate Diploma in Visual Journalism from Concordia University, where she developed a robust portfolio of photography and video projects that merge her visual storytelling skills with narrative depth. She is an active member of Concordia’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee.

As a journalist with CBC Montreal, Aatefeh covers a wide range of social issues, including climate change, bilingualism, and public policy, and has interviewed prominent voices across these fields. Her work spans television, radio, podcasts, and web platforms. Guided by a commitment to nuanced and insightful storytelling, Aatefeh aims to amplify underrepresented voices and foster meaningful dialogue in both her academic and journalistic endeavours.
