I am a second year MA student researching how the media discusses climate change in their coverage of extreme weather events. During my time in the journalism BA program, I had the opportunity to be an undergraduate RA where I fell in love with research. I decided that I would continue in the MA program where I could continue to hone my skills as a researcher. Now having finished my courses, I am focusing on my own thesis which explores how the Canadian media connect extreme weather events with climate change.
I also contribute and edit for the newsletter Carbon Paper which highlights the best climate/environmental journalism in Canada. I also work as a research assistant in the Political Science department where I use my communication research skills to analyze migration in Quebec and Canada.
My research interests include climate change and environmental journalism, immigration and migration communication, science journalism, and quantitative research methods.
Thesis title: "Forecasting Change: Climate Connections in Canadian Extreme Weather Reporting"
