Clément Lechat

Supervisor: Andrea Hunter

Clément Lechat (he/him) studied at the Rennes Institute of Political Studies in France, before continuing his graduate education in journalism at Concordia University. His research focuses on innovative forms of journalism related to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility, as well as issues of representation and participation in the media.

Under Dr. Andrea Hunter's supervision, his master’s thesis investigates voice diversity in Quebec francophone media through the experience of accented journalists, using in-depth interviewing. As a research assistant for Dr. Magda Konieczna, Clément Lechat is involved in Documenters Canada, a network that trains, pays and equips residents with the tools of journalism to cover public meetings in their communities. He contributed to launching the first Canadian site in Toronto in partnership with The Green Line, a hyperlocal news outlet, and is working to expand the network to other locations across the country and study this new form of collaboration between journalists and citizens.
