I completed my Bachelor degree in journalism (from Concordia) in spring 2021. Before pursuing my Master's I landed a job at the public library which really shifted my perspective on how we acquire, process and understand information. Inspired by what I see as the limitless possibilities of the library, my research looks at how the field of journalism could learn and expand through collaborating with libraries and citizens. With waning public trust and constant economic stressors, journalism must find a way to adapt and evolve in order to thrive. My theory is that by collaborating with existing institutions (in this case the library), journalism can redirect its focus on building communities that are well-informed, politically engaged, and cared for, in lieu of chasing profits and a quick click.
