Sara Mizannojehdehi (she/her) is a master’s student and illustrator in Digital Innovation and Journalism Studies at Concordia University. She previously obtained a bachelor’s degree in Media Production and Design from Carleton University. Sara’s master’s research-creation thesis explores the intersections of journalism, belonging, and conveying a sense of place through graphics journalism within a hyperlocal context. Her project looks at the sense of place in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Park and the community surrounding it throughout the years.
Sara is interested in combining illustration, narrative, archives, mapping, and autoethnography within her work. At Concordia, Sara is a research assistant to Dr. Magda Konieczna and is looking at community-centred journalism approaches in Canada. She is also a research assistant for Dr. Aphrodite Salas’ multidisciplinary project on neurological changes associated with long COVID. Outside of research, Sara is a graphic designer, previously freelancing for Maisonneuve Magazine, Community Foundations of Canada’s Investment Readiness Program, the Centre for Mindful Habitats, and more.
