Ali Smears

Thesis Title: Corporeal Configurations: Encounters with the body in diasporic South Asian artwork.

Ali is a PhD candidate in the Department of Religions and Cultures at Concordia University. She holds an MA in Religious Studies with a concentration in Gender Studies from McGill University. Ali is an interdisciplinary researcher examining the intersection of South Asian Religions, Art History, Media Studies, and Gender Studies. Her ongoing doctoral research project examines the ways that diasporic South Asian artists reconfigure the body to comment on nation(s) and tradition.
