Melissa Bellerose

As the Executive Director of Toujours ensemble, a Montreal nonprofit dedicated to supporting nearly 500 youth a year, I want to emphasize the impact of my experience as a member of the School of Community and Public Affairs (SCPA) at Concordia. Graduating in 2004 with a degree in Communications and Community and Public Affairs, my journey with SCPA has been nothing short of a game changer in shaping my career.
What set SCPA apart for me were the intimate, interactive class settings that fostered an environment where dialogue and debate were not just encouraged but celebrated. In these settings, I found more than an education; I discovered a profound sense of purpose that eventually guided me towards the nonprofit sector. SCPA laid the foundation for this journey, influencing me to take on diverse roles, including positions at organizations like the Alzheimer Society of Montreal and the Old Brewery Mission.
Through these experiences, SCPA didn't just provide theoretical knowledge; it equipped me with practical skills and insights crucial for navigating the challenges of the real world. The hands-on approach and the emphasis on dialogue have proven to be instrumental in my professional development. SCPA, without a doubt, stands as a cornerstone in my journey, ensuring I was well-prepared for the dynamic landscape of the nonprofit sector.
