Philippe Guillaume

Philippe Guillaume is currently a PhD candidate at Concordia University with the Interuniversity Doctoral Program in Art History. He is also a peripatetic artist and photographer. Following a career as a professional freelance photographer specializing in fashion, Philippe completed an interdisciplinary MA through The Special Individualized Program (SIP) at Concordia where his studies concentrated on art history, photography and walking. He specializes in photographic history and was the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Institute for the Studies in Canadian Arts 2016-17 doctoral fellow. His research focuses on the connections between photography and walking and how this association has evolved and mutated since the 1960s as a significant component in conceptual art. In 2020, his relational art walk across Toronto, Mind the Gap, was published in Walking Bodies (Triarchy Press, Axminster, UK). In 2021, his writing on Jean-Paul Gill’s photographic archive of Montreal’s old red light district was published in Photogenic Montreal (McGill-Queen’s University Press).
