Vanessa Sicotte
Program
I am a second year Ph.D. student in Art (Design) History. My doctoral research project focuses on exploring how Québécoises designers interpreted modern interior aesthetics in twentieth-century Canada. I seek to understand the creative agency and influence exercised by these women within the sphere of interior design and its implications for national discourses. At the core of my research are the interiors and decorative art objects designed by women for domestic spaces. I emphasize on the inherent intersectionality between these spaces and objects, as they navigate between craft, design, and art. Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to the development of a comprehensive Canadian design history.
