Nikki Mosca

Nikki joined Concordia’s Film Studies program at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in September 2023. She received her Bachelor of Arts at Carleton University, majoring in Film Studies and minoring in history. She graduated with High Distinction and was granted the Senate Award for outstanding academic achievement. Her independent study at Carleton was titled “The Rise and Fall of the Cinematic Representation of Women as Warriors: the National Film Board’s Wartime Propaganda during the Second World War.” The study investigated John Grierson’s role in determining how and when women were depicted in NFB films at a time of severe gender inequality. She then highlighted parallels between the trajectory of women’s rights within the Canadian armed forces and the history of women’s depictions in NFB films. She is interested in continuing her studies in film history, feminist media studies and cinematic propaganda during the Second World War throughout her Master’s degree.
