Liam Riley

Having grown up in Vancouver, BC, Liam attended the University of British Columbia where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in Film Studies, followed by a Master's of Arts in Cinema and Media Studies. Liam successfully defended his master’s thesis ”Gut Cinema: Sickness in American Cinema”, in which he employed a gut-based logic to an analysis of colonial cinema. His research interests include film philosophy, Deleuzian film theory, colonial and postcolonial theory, and medical humanities. Liam has presented essays at the Film Philosophy Conference in Espinho, Portugal, the Music and Moving Images Conference in New York City, and the CMF Graduate Student Conference with the University of Calgary. He is also an independent filmmaker, having written, directed, and produced several short films that have screened locally in Vancouver.
