Trude den Burger
Drama Therapist, Belgium
1. How are you applying your degree in drama therapy from Concordia?
I facilitate group and individual therapy sessions using techniques and methods I learned at Concordia. My education also helps me coach team members and assist in interventions.
2. What do you value most from your Concordia drama therapy experience?
After graduating with an undergraduate degree in drama therapy, I did some work in refugee camps in the West Bank. Basically working as the only therapist in this traumatic environment, I realized that I really wanted and needed to learn more about my profession. Concordia gave me two years of training to deepen my understanding of drama therapy and its potential to help others. What I value most from my experience is how closely professors worked with students. That, along with numerous practicum experiences, really enabled me to become a better drama therapist and person. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
3. Is there a particular memory that stands out from your time at Concordia?
The connections I made with students and professors were very memorable for me, especially since I was living far away from family and friends. We played together, slept very little, drank a lot of coffee, compared body odours and ploughed through snow wearing ridiculous winter boots on our way to class. We supported and affected each other through storytelling and laughter. I am really grateful for this.
