Megan Wade-Darragh
Painting and Drawing
Program
I am most interested in depicting what is between or before language: atmosphere over volume, and affect over description.
My explorations are grounded in the fluctuating functions of a photograph as a symbol, a composition of formal qualities, and an object. I am reminded of the image-as-object by incorporating evidence of the printed, folded, stained, and deteriorating photograph within my paintings. I intend for my material practice to mirror the transformative chain that images undergo within media.
My goal is to expand the potential for an emotional connection to my work by further developing atmospheric qualities, and in doing so, to winnow down to a fraction of a narrative.
