Hiromi Nakatsugawa

Painting and Drawing

My artistic practice is an attempt to depict and reconcile the complex modes of being that exist within a single body at any given moment. The drawings are usually composed with coloured pencils and graphite, and the interactions of these media on the surface texture of various papers becomes another compositional element. These renderings of tubed and venular passageways weave through, around and across one another, illuminating an intricate mesh of organic operations and their functional fragility. Within these structures, portals form and disperse, activating potential processes of internal discovery and otherworldly exploration. They conjure a narrative that includes forms of nature interwoven with psycho-affective biomechanics in various stages of transience and transformation.
