Charlotte Ghomeshi
Photography
Through photography and video, I draw from my own memories and those of my loved ones to weave narratives exploring life's ineffable questions. My work navigates themes of intimacy, family relationships, and the broader human connection to nature and death. Rooted in a therapeutic process, my approach is led by intuition, often unfolding through staged scenes. My current research explores the intersection of my Iranian, Québécois, and Italian family origins, documenting how these diverse cultures have shaped my identity. It also delves into the visual representation of family members’ conditions—cancer, multiple sclerosis, and dementia—while reflecting on their impact on my personal history.
As a visual artist working between Montreal and Saint-Sauveur, Charlotte has exhibited extensively in Quebec, with solo exhibitions at Caravansérail and Parc Offsite and group exhibitions at prominent venues including FOFA Gallery, Centre Skol, and ARTCH. She participated in artist residencies at institutions like Est-Nord-Est, Sagamie Center, and Casa Lü, in Mexico. In collaboration with three fellow artists, she curated and showcased work in two group exhibitions at Plein Sud and CCGV. She's also the founder and curator of Tabloïde, a public art initiative showcasing photography in urban spaces.
