Sculpture and Ceramics

My practice takes form in material depictions of the reflexive relationship between cultural consumption and the creation of a coherent self-identity. As culturally formed people, we are required to imbue common things into personal objects as needed. Like the flexibility of a pun in which one thing contains conflicting meanings, I’m interested in instances when something is at once cultural and subjective, or both aesthetic and banal. As the meanings of cultural signifiers change rapidly; the associations found in my works seek to capture briefly recognized affiliations.

Allison Higgins is an artist living and working in Montreal, Canada.
