Alex Pouliot
Sculpture and Ceramics
Program
Using an interdisciplinary approach, Alex Pouliot’s practice explores the processes of representation and the archiving of the sensible through the narrative of the self. Based on his personal experience of the world, his work takes shape from pre-existing forms and content gathered from his own archives, memories and dreams. Generally creating in relation to site-specific contexts, or as a means of self-healing, his research is driven by the reconciliation of conflicting desires such as presence/absence — preservation/destruction — memory/oblivion — physical/digital — private/public — injuring/healing — life/death.
Alex Pouliot (b. 1992, Québec City) holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual and Media Arts from UQAM (2020). His work has been presented in exhibitions and festivals including L’Écart, Fonderie Darling, La Place des Arts, Galerie de l’UQAM and Maison des étudiants Canadiens (Paris). He is the author of the poetry collection Doucement les corps (2019) published by Les Éditions du Mur. Alongside artist Andy Maple, he cofounded Pièce jointe (2020), a non-profit organization and publishing house dedicated to the dissemination of artists' research in contemporary art, where he also works as an editor.
