About the project
In a time of record-high consumer demand for kids' pain relief medication, Canada is experiencing a nationwide shortage of acetaminophen and ibuprofen. The team’s partnership with Haleon focuses on increasing the Advil Suspension production line capacity while ensuring a streamlined product flow throughout the facility. The following are the three key aspects of this project:
- Maximizing the inbound flow of raw materials,
- Optimizing the flow of those materials through the manufacturing and packaging lines, and
- Encouraging a higher production rate of finished goods.
The students will attempt to solve bottleneck issues using detailed process mapping and modelling the operations and product flow using Arena Simulation. To ensure the comprehensiveness and completion of any proposed solution, the team must account for all processes from raw material storage to final goods packaging. They must also understand and model the resource allocation of other products within the facility to account for product mix interaction. The scope of the project, despite its potential for creep, has remained the same as initially established.
