For their leading role in philanthropy in Quebec
Sandra Chartrand is president of the Sandra and Alain Bouchard Foundation. Through her active involvement in important fundraising campaigns and events over more than 30 years, she has become a key player in the development of philanthropy in Quebec.
Chartrand currently sits on the board of directors at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital Foundation, the Place des Arts Foundation and the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. She is also a member of the Development Committee of the board of Université de Montréal.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Concordia in 1985.
Alain Bouchard is a born entrepreneur who has excelled in the retail industry. He opened his first convenience store in Quebec in 1980 and founded the companies that grew into Alimentation Couche-Tard, which today is a world leader in the convenience store sector, with more than 14,300 stores in 24 countries and territories.
He served on the board of directors of the CGI Group from 2013 to 2023 and on the board of directors of Quebecor from 1997 to 2009.
Bouchard has received many distinguished awards for business excellence and outstanding professional achievements. He is a member of the Order of Canada and an Officer of the Ordre national du Québec. He received an honorary doctorate in consumer sciences from Université Laval and an honorary doctorate in law from McGill University.
Together, in 2012, they established the Sandra and Alain Bouchard Foundation, which supports a range of causes associated with people living with intellectual disabilities, as well as artistic and cultural projects. In 2015, they were named Outstanding Philanthropists of the Year by the Quebec Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Sandra Chartrand, BA 85, and Alain Bouchard, were granted the Doctorate of Laws at the spring 2023 ceremony for the John Molson School of Business.
