Do you have a favorite course that you’ve taken?

Last year was full of fantastic English courses. My favorites were Caribbean Literature with Dr. Amanda Perry, Literature of Indigenous Peoples of Canada with Professor Gage Diabo, and Milton with Dr. Darragh Languay. I got a lot out of those three courses and would highly recommend them.

Why did you choose Concordia?

I'm an international student, originally from New Hampshire. After taking a couple trips up to Montreal for vacations and then to look at universities during high school, I realized that I really enjoyed the look and feel of Montreal. While it's not as busy as somewhere like New York City, Montreal seemed like a fun place to live since there is a thriving community of creative people living and working here. Also, the tuition in Quebec was much more reasonable than most of the places I applied to in the United States.

What was it like transitioning from the US to Canada?

In my first year I found that the stereotype of Canadians “being nice” was true. Everyone was kind and accommodating to me, especially faculty members. Living in Montreal has been fantastic for the most part. I get to bike everywhere. I don't have to drive like I do like I have to back in New England. I've been enjoying it a lot, especially since biking in spring, summer and fall is just a fantastic way to get outside and to see the community. I also appreciate that bike safety is prioritized in Montreal.

Did you live on campus when you first arrived?

I was in the Grey Nuns Residence for my first year and it was a fun experience for the most part. I got along very well with my randomly selected roommate. My current housemate is someone that I met in residence first year, and I made lots of friends just by living there. My roommate and I just left our door open, and people walking up and down the hallways came in to say hi to us.

What experiences have been most memorable during your time at Concordia?

I feel like I’m moving upwards in my time here. My fourth year has probably been the best year for me so far for me, since I now have a good balance between classes and extracurriculars like the Sustainability Ambassadors Program. I'm also starting Humanities+ today, which I'm really excited about. It’s a weekly learning session to prepare you for the professional world, since the Humanities can be applied to a wide range of fields and careers. I’m taking Humanities+ to get a better idea of what I want to do with my degree after graduation.
