Join Jurist-in-Residence Morton S. Minc in conversation with Sophie Brochu, the first woman to hold the position of CEO and president of Hydro-Québec. Minc and Brochu will discuss her community engagement, the way the law intersects with her work and her vision for the future. The conversation will be followed by a moderated Q&A with the audience.
Sophie Brochu took office as President and Chief Executive Officer of Hydro-Québec in April 2020. She is the first woman in the company’s history to hold that office on a permanent basis.
A seasoned professional with over 30 years in the energy sector, including Énergir’s past President and Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Brochu’s vision and influence extend to Montreal’s community. She has worked with Centraide of Greater Montreal for many years and is co-founder of ruelle de l’avenir, a non-profit organization that encourages Montreal’s youth in the Centre Sud and Hochelaga neighbourhoods, to stay in school. She is also one of the original leaders of The A Effect, an initiative focused on diversity, equality and inclusivity.
Ms. Brochu was awarded Honorary Doctorates by Université de Montréal (HEC Montréal) and Bishop’s University. She is a member of the Order of Canada and an officer of the Ordre national du Québec.
