The Institute for Research on Migration and Society (IRMS) is proud to host an engaging workshop for students and interested in reporting, storytelling, and public communication on migration and forced displacement.

Developed by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in Canada, it presents and clarifies key terminology related to forced displacement and discusses practical strategies and culturally sensitive reporting techniques. The workshop also aims to catalyze conversations within Canadian newsrooms on informed consent, anonymization, language sensitivity, narrative framing, and responsible imagery usage. This workshop seeks to empower journalists to navigate sensitive stories with integrity, fostering a culture of ethical reporting and inclusive storytelling.

The workshop will be led by Levon Sevunts, Communications Officer at UNHCR Canada. With over three decades of experience reporting on international conflicts and displacement in regions like the Caucasus, Central Asia, and East Africa, Levon brings invaluable insights into ethical storytelling.

If you're interested in refugee issues and ethical storytelling, this workshop is for you.
