The Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Time, Technology, and Capitalism (CIRTTC) and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture (CISSC) working group "Algorithmic Technology and Society" are inviting you to an interactive workshop on Human and Artificial intelligences with Dr. Tarmure Vadean.

About the workshop

Dr. Tarmure Vadean’s research focuses on the evolution of human intelligence (HI) in the context of the increasing development of artificial intelligence (AI), from a transdisciplinary perspective. A central part of the workshop will be dedicated to exosomatization - a process by which humans externalize their attributes and faculties outside of the body, in technological objects (as defined by Stiegler, 2018).

Exosomatization is of particular interest today, in that it externalizes intelligence and algorithms it, with consequences for individuals, disciplines and society as a whole. Recent developments of AI - including as an extension of the HI, and not as its mirror - raise significant questions over what is understood today as human intelligence and the human mind.

After an introduction with a brief epistemological overview highlighting a few key points of the intelligence’s exosomatization, a collaborative activity will follow. Participants will have the opportunity to:
Explore interactively how natural human intelligence is being externalized and transformed through AI and digital technologies;
Reflect on the development of natural human intelligence in the context of its exosomatization.

About the workshop facilitator

Dr.Mirella Tarmure Vadean is an associate professor at the Université de l’Ontario français in Toronto. Her current research focuses on the development of the Human intelligence in the Artificial Intelligence context.
She is a member of CIRET (International Center for Transdisciplinary Research), and of its research group “AI, Economy, and Human Mediation”. Dr. Tarmure Vadean is also one of the authors of the recent book “Artificial Intelligence and Human Mediation” (2024).
