There are over 2.4 million podcasts with an audience of 383.7 million listeners worldwide. Podcasting is booming. And are increasingly popular—100 million listeners in the US alone. Digital technologies, recording equipment, and editing software are more and more accessible. Virtually anyone can “do audio,” and with surprisingly little training, the means to do it well. But why should academics care? What benefits do podcasting have for intellectual work? The classroom? In this talk, Sean Guillory will discuss the benefits and challenges of audio storytelling for scholars and the lessons he learned through making the audio documentary series, Teddy Goes to the USSR.
