The students of the "Social Debates and Issues in Public Affairs and Public Policy" class in the School of Community and Public Affairs, Concordia University, present a panel on Language Politics. Invited speakers Celine Cooper, Dónal Gill, Jean-Pierre Corbeil and Stephen Thompson will discuss Quebec's current climate and the implications of the language laws on social institutions. The panel will be moderated by the talented Francine Pelletier, author, documentary filmmaker and journalist-in-residence at Concordia University. Exploring the linguistic political situation in Quebec, this panel delves into the historical, cultural, emancipatory, and socio-political dimensions shaping language policies in the province. From the contentious debates over bilingualism to the preservation of French identity, join them as they dissect the complexities and tensions surrounding language in Quebec's dynamic social fabric.
