Charles Briggs, Senior Lecturer, Department of History, University of Vermont.
In this public lecture, Charles Briggs, senior lecturer in the Department of History at the University of Vermont, will put the plague pandemic and broader 'crisis of the fourteenth century' in conversation with the history and historiography of early Renaissance humanism. He'll argue that the crisis had a profound impact on not only the development and trajectory of humanism but also how we think about the 'medieval' and the 'modern.'
