Panel Discussion: Inclusive Teaching, Academic Freedom, and Hierarchies of Knowledge in the Classroom
Date: March 24, 2021
Time: 1 – 2:30 p.m.
Participants:
Vivek Venkatesh (Professor of Inclusive Practices in Visual Arts, Art Education; Director of the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance)
Description: Join artist-educators Deanna Smith, Jason Selman, Vivek Venkatesh and educational philosopher David Waddington in an interactive conversation that lays bare our assumptions regarding equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in a post-pandemic university context. We’ll collectively address strategies that have inspired us to address EDI in our pedagogies, how to overcome impasses in creating spaces for dialogue, and also discuss how to encourage plurality of viewpoints. The session will be divided into two halves where we’ll hear from our invited speakers through a series of queries posed by our host Vivek Venkatesh, and we’ll then engage in a conversation with our Faculty of Fine Arts participants.
