ETHERIA FILM FESTIVAL 2024

Spotlights Women-Created Genre Cinema

Short Film Program

Concordia University is pleased to host a collection of short films selected for the 2024 Etheria Film Festival, the world’s preeminent showcase for global genre cinema created by women.

Etheria spotlights innovative and provocative work in genre cinema created by women from around the world. Each year, the festival provides a platform for emerging voices to share work that explores a variety of themes across a spectrum of horror, fantasy, science fiction, action, and dark comedy. Etheria counters ongoing industry-wide inequities by providing a supportive forum for women creators to gather in celebration of their unique and innovative visions.

The event will also include an introduction by award-winning Montréal filmmaker Maude Michaud, who will be discussing her experience in the film industry and with women-centered film festivals. A screening of her most recent short film The Monster Inside My Head (Fantasia 2023 Audience Award Winner) will precede the Etheria shorts program.

Etheria was founded in 2014 in Los Angeles by film programmer, historian, and writer Heidi Honeycutt, along with Stacy Pippi Hammon, a film producer and programmer, who serve as co-Directors. Etheria premieres at Los Angeles’ historic Egyptian Theater, with a joint screening at Screenland Armour in Kansas City, Missouri. Etheria partners with AMC’s Shudder to showcase Etheria’s shorts program on their popular streaming platform.

This program is presented in conjunction with Concordia’s Film and Moving Image Studies Program with the assistance of Dr. Rosanna Maule, the faculty liaison for film festivals.
