Improv-X is a new improv series at Concordia hosted by Kathy Kenedy and Adriana Minu. Housed in the music department, it is a place to listen to local music improvisers, to play, to experiment with new approaches and to be together in sonic motion.
Each month we are hosting a local music improviser for a showcase of their idiosyncratic approach to improvisation, an immersion into their world. The space is then open for small-group improv to people that sign up in advance by email to Adriana (expect the event to be routed around sound but come with whatever you have to offer performatively: movement, dance, sculpture, etc. ). There is no expectation to join in and anyone with an interest in improv is welcomed to spectate or participate, statically or in motion.
As a space for improv experiments we will use it to test impromptu participatory pieces, works in progress and other performative play. We close with a large group improv.
Please register in advance by emailing adriana.minu@concordia.ca, and include your instrument/practice.
