Victor Julien-Laferrière

Victor Julien-Laferrière, a French cellist, is distinguished by his numerous major prizes. He won first prize at the Queen Elizabeth Competition in 2017 and received the Diapason d’Or in 2023 for his latest recording. Julien-Laferrière performs with leading orchestras as both a soloist and conductor. This marks his return engagement with the Ladies' Morning Musical Club (LMMC).

The Ladies Morning Musical Club (LMMC) has announced their programming for the 2024-2025 season, which includes a range of chamber music offerings. The organization will move to Oscar Peterson Hall, located at the school’s Loyola Campus in Montreal’s West End.

This season will shine the spotlight on string, vocal and piano repertoire, with performances by established soloists and chamber groups. The year will kick off with a performance by the Calidore String Quartet on September 8th. This will mark their fourth appearance with the LMMC.

String lovers will also have the opportunity to hear violinist Blake Pouliot (October 20th), cellist Victor Julien-Laferrière (December 10th), the Goldmund Quartett (February 23rd), and the Leonkoro Quartet (April 6th).

Montreal’s own soprano Karina Gauvin will present a vocal recital with longtime collaborator, pianist Michael McMahon. Although she is especially known for 18th century repertoire, Gauvin is adept in a wide range of musical styles and has made operatic and concert appearances around the world, including with ensembles such as Berlin’s Akademie für alte Musik, Canada’s Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Les Violons du Roy, and with the New York Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony. On February 2nd, she will take to the LMMC stage for the fifth time.

British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor will make his debut as a soloist with the LMMC on November 10th, following previous appearances with orchestras in London, Cleveland, Leipzig, Zurich, Paris, New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. He is a regular performer at the BBC Proms, and currently holds a recording contract with Decca. Also performing a piano recital next year is George Li (September 29th). The Fauré Quartett, a piano quartet, will perform on March 19th, and a piano trio, Trio Wanderer, will bring the LMMC’s season to a close on April 27th.

Subscriptions for the 10-concert series are $350, and $100 for students 26 years and under and single tickets are available at $60 and $25 for students.
