Looking back on selected projects, Paul Maheke focuses on the ways in which the invisible and the visible interact inside his artistic practice. This is a hybrid event, taking place concurrently in VA-114 and on Zoom.

Paul Maheke (b. 1985, France) lives and works in Montpellier, FR.
After studying at ENSA Paris-Cergy, Ecole Estienne in Paris and Open School East, London, Maheke’s works and performances have been shown at Tate Modern, London, the Venice Biennale, The Renaissance Society, Chicago, Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, Bourse de Commerce - Collection Pinault and Lafayette Anticipations in Paris, MO.CO, Montpellier, Triangle France, Marseille, Baltic Triennial 13, Manifesta 12, Palermo, Cabaret Voltaire, Zurich and Chisenhale Gallery, London, The South London Gallery, London amongst others.
He was shortlisted for the 21st Prix de la Fondation d'Entreprise Ricard (2019) and the Future Generation Art Prize (2021). In 2020 he was included in British Art Show 9, a landmark touring exhibition that celebrates every 5 years the vitality of recent art made in Britain.
With a focus on dance and through a varied and often collaborative body of work comprising performance, installation, sound and video, Maheke considers the potential of the body as an archive in order to examine how memory and identity are formed and constituted.

À travers un corpus varié et souvent collaboratif comprenant performances, installations, son et vidéo, Maheke se penche sur le potentiel du corps comme archive afin d'examiner comment se forment et se constituent la mémoire et l'identité.
