Projet Casa kicks off its fall season with a unique exhibition. From September 18 to October 6, ceramic artist Pascale Girardin's recent works will be showcased in the halls of Projet Casa as part of her first Montreal solo exhibition.

Pascale Girardin has had her hands in clay for nearly thirty years and has a well-established international career working with numerous high-end clients worldwide. Known to the public through monumental public art sculptures in Montreal and across the globe, this exhibition offers the public an opportunity to discover an intimate aspect of her work and creative process.

Drawing on the study of gesture, resulting artifacts, and their context of presentation, the artist explores ways in which clay and tools of production can serve as both referents and devices within a broader practice.

The exhibition features both finished works such as her "Figura" series, large voluminous sculptures that reach heights up to 1.6 m and who’s human scale evoke the sensation of holding and being held, the way one body adjusts to another.

The artist will also present elements of her creative process:

  • The worn tarps, turned artworks which covered her studio tables for a period of five years
  • Short films "With Care," "Haptic," and "Processes" illustrate a juxtaposition of sounds and images from the exploration of her studio environment
  • Raw clay sketches and speculative objects that invite dialogue or remain dormant, waiting to mature in the artist's mind, prompting viewers to reflect on the creative act.

Pascale is one of the pioneering ceramic artists who continues to inspire younger generations, at a time when this medium is experiencing tremendous excitement in Quebec," notes exhibition curator Jézabel Plamondon.

"Presence and Digressions" offers a sensitive insight into the act of presence and how creative freedom plays a central role in its emergence.

The exhibition will be presented from Thursday to Sunday, from September 18 to October 6, 2024.
