In celebration of Black History Month, join Concordia grads for Black Out Night, a special evening of theatre, discussion and celebration at the National Arts Centre (NAC).
Controlled Damage is a thought-provoking play retelling the story of Canadian civil-rights activist and businesswoman Viola Desmond as she travels from Halifax to Ottawa.
Meet the director — Cherissa Richards, the first Black woman to direct this play — during a pre-show chat moderated by award-winning journalist and professor Nana aba Duncan.
After the performance, step back in time and revel in an evening inspired by the glamour of the Harlem Renaissance and the Roaring Twenties. The Renaissance after party, curated by Ottawa’s own Hors Pair Social includes performances by The Lionyls, Miss McLeod and sounds by Music by Jayel. Renaissance is themed after the Roaring 20s/Harlem Renaissance and attendees are encouraged to dress in theme.
